Ashmolean Late Nights

” Over the past year the Notting Hill Arts Club and the Ashmolean Museum have collaborated on a series of events that celebrate the Ashmolean’s series of temporary exhibitions and the burgeoning Oxford music scene.

The Ashmolean’s vaults have played host to live performances from the likes of Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Kyla La Grange, Coco Sumner, The Fixers, Spring Offensive and many more.

On May 18th The Ashmolean Museum will stay open to the public until 9pm, as part of the Museums at Night 2012 Festival. The famous permanent collections will stay open later and the newly opened exhibition The English Prize: The Capture Of The Westmorland, An Episode Of The Grand tour lets visitors experience a time capsule of 18th Century life in a vivid recreation of the Grand Tour and the high seas.

As a soundtrack to guests’ exploration of the Museum, the D’Aranyi Quartet will perform in the atrium, playing pieces from the Westmorland’s era. DJ Paul Camo of NTS radio provides a contemporary counterpoint with his unique selection, and Your Mum Visuals will re-imagine the atrium space with their trade mark projections. The Rooftop Terrace Bar will be open till 9:30pm.

As the Museum closes its doors at 9pm we open the basement vaults for another installment of the now infamous Ashmolean Late Night Sessions.

The Arts Club has been championing Troumaca since day one. The leaders of the Birmingham new school bring their soulful, tropically-flavoured, dub inspired brand of dance to Oxford.
AlunaGeorge is producer George Reid and singer Aluna Francis. A confident pop meeting of ’90s R&B and glitchy electronica, their music has recently been mixed by the best British producers and released via Tri Angle Records.

DJ Mim of Black Cab Sessions plays classic tunes alongside the latest rock, electro, indie and leftfield pop. Black Cab Sessions have impeccable taste: you’ll be in safe hands until 1am.”

T.S.U tour support press

We’re on tour supporting The Sunshine Underground. Here are a few kind words about us….

Manchester
Club Adacemy
14th April 2012

…Before we get to the main event, it’s worth mentioning the support act, Troumaca, an incredible Birmingham five piece whose sound is an entirely fresh and original amalgamation of soul and dub with an unmistakably tropical bass feel. Couple this unique mixture with some of the best sly dance moves I’ve seen in a lead singer for a while, and the result was genius. And nothing, of course, like the act which they preceded.

Having discovered my new musical obsession, we waited with baited breath for TSU to impress. And boy, did they…..

Slade Rooms
20th April 2012

…Next up were Brummie band Troumaca who have been touted by many as being one of the biggest parts of the regeneration of the Birmingham music scene. And rightly so with their unique sound – imagine a tribal Pandas and People and you’d be nearly there. What shined through was the passion of every member, which took me back to the first time I saw Friendly Fires four years ago. Catch the five piece in small venues while you still can….
